2024 Week 8: Power Rankings

We're just past the halfway point of the season, and standings are continuing to solidify as we head toward playoffs. No team is officially out of the playoffs yet (and Yahoo may not fully agree till things are well past any point reasonable people would agree), but if we count a negative record as out of playoffs and a positive record as in, we're getting really close to determinations for some teams. One team, Dak's Track Attack would need to win out to get an even record and a chance at playoffs, but even then, being the only team still in the 700s for points this season, they'd also have a huge hill to climb when breaking ties for that last spot. Another team, Lamarathon Runners would now need to lose out to miss playoffs this season, and if they lose out, they would almost definitely miss since they are only 30 points above 6th PF and would probably not gain many points losing all those games. Even if they do lose out, with the 3rd highest point total (a position t...

2024 Week 7: Livin' on a Prayer

This week I had a set of stats in mind, but it's Thursday and I still haven't quite finished the scripts to pull all the data I need. Instead, to mark the halfway point of the regular season, I'll step away from the analytics and just provide some raw commentary on each team's performance over the first half of the season. To make it at least a little special for the halfway point, maybe I can add some predictions as well. We're going reverse order of current standings here, so the predictions work better. Dak's Track Attack: This season has been tough for Dak's Track Attack. To be honest, most of the starters on this team don't seem to be true starters, with players like Austin Ekeler (what an injury year and a trade can do) and Khalil Shakir typically being mostly bench depth. Regardless of those plays, which have been made out of necessity, this team's players have dropped the ball all around, with multiple low single digit games each from Amari C...

2024 Week 6: The Dream Team

We're almost halfway through the regular season, with just one more game till we get there. Records are starting to shape up, and anyone with a negative record after this week will need at least 4 wins in the final 7 weeks just to think about playoffs. I'm not going to go into any real depth for this, since it isn't the focus of the week's analysis, but I wanted to take a quick look to see if a larger sample size has gotten people closer to where they should be or if our season is still as unfair as it seemed the last time I reviewed "Bad Luck or Just Suck". A quick look at our standings and relative deservedness before we dive into this week's main story: 1. Pole Vaulter's Chubb - Dumb Luck 2. Lamarathon Runners - Dumb Luck 3. Rachaad White & Blue - Don't Suck 4. Purdy Good Olympics - Bad Luck 5. Yusuf DiKelce - Bad Luck 6. Darnold QB1 - Don't Suck 7. Pukaing Up Seine Water - Just Suck 8. Ja'Marr SteepleChase- Dumb Luck 9. City of Love...

2024 Week 5: NFL High Score?

This was a big week for NFL offensive players (as noted by Greg and multiple pundits)... or was it? The answer is probably yes, but I'm not satisfied with that simple of an answer. For many of us, this was a big week, with lots of points to go around (though there was one obvious outlier), but was this really the NFL's doing or are we maybe becoming better decision makers ourselves? Maybe the answer is both? My last attempt to not talk bad about my future opponent to avoid a jinx didn't work, but I'm still going to try to avoid it anyway just in case, so they will remain unnamed in this column (as above). We also had a self-proclaimed "Noodle Fight" as well, which is probably technically true when the match consists of two of the worst three performances of the week, but an average score of almost 100 points between the teams makes it a pretty al dente noodle fight. So was this a big week for the offenses? If so, how big? Let's take a look at the numbers! ...

2024 Week 4: Q1 Report

We've had one full month of fantasy football, which puts us a quarter of the way through the season already. With no unblemished records and everyone with at least one win now, the race is still close. The top position is only separated from the last by 2 games, a gap fully surmountable in the last 10 weeks of the regular season. This is still anybody's game. To make moves even more likely in the next few weeks, a single win or loss could make some major corrections for teams 2-4, who despite their positions are actually teams 8-10 in points for. Each of the 2-2 teams and two of the 1-3 teams, all the way back to current 10th place have them beat in points. For the quarter season mark, we'll take a look into how our keepers have fared over their first 4 games returning to their same team. A few have already paid dividends, while others have been dropped or injured, each leaving their mark on the team just 4 games in. First, I'll list out each keeper, along with the roun...
