Week 7 : Almost Record Breaking

The Loch Ness Burrow broke the 200 point barrier for the first time in what feels like forever, demolishing his unfortunate opponent who would have beaten any other team in the league this week. This is particularly shocking as we mostly had another low scoring week with 8/12 teams falling below projections.

This got me thinking, where does this score stack up all time? Lets look at some records.

  • I don't know where 201.85 points ranks all time, but it is not our highest score ever. That record belongs to Tyreek Sharks (hey, that's me!) with 208.60 in 2019
  • Our lowest score ever belongs to KnockinOnEvansDoor (Ryan) in 2017 with 43.50. KY (Kevin) came very close this week with a score of 46.80. Imagine if we had been able to break both the high and low scores all time in the same week!
  • If those teams had faced each other this week Loch Ness Burrow would have 4x'd KY's score, something I am 100% positive we've never seen
  • Joe Burrow came close to the most passing yards ever recorded in our league with 481, but that honor belongs to Big Ben with 506 in 2017.
  • Gordon's Cannabis Co (Chris) is still the best team in league history, averaging 137.29 pts/week. Momo is the closest competition this season at 125.6 , so this record is set to stand for another year at least.
  • The most points a kicker has ever scored in our league is 30. This feat was accomplished by Kai Forbath for KnockinOnEvansDoor (Ryan) in week 7 of 2017. This one feels like it could be broken but it's 5 years old so maybe 6 FG games are more rare than I thought.

Matchups

The Loch Ness Burrow vs Chipped by Billy G

Lets start here since we've already teased it in the top of this post. Loch Ness got a combined 80 points out of the Burrow/Chase stack as the Bengals thrashed the Falcons. New waiver wire addition Ken Walker exploded for 35 points to shoot this team up to the highest score on the season.

Billy G had truly terrible luck this week. DeAndre Swift being a late sit decision hurts when 3 players are on bye but in the end 126 points should have been enough to get a win this week. Shoutout to Josh Jacobs for his 3rd straight 30+ point game. Maybe the most disrespected player during draft season?

Kelsey Lohan's Ghost vs Jets Fuel Can't Melt Steel Beams

Patrick Mahomes does it again. With the departure of Tyreek you never really know who he's going to throw TDs to, but you know he's going to find a way to score a ton of points. Kelsey also got a big game from Etienne, who appears to really be breaking out as the Jags have just jettisoned James Robinson.

On the Jets Fuel side of the ball, Green Bay really let him down. Allan Lazard and Romeo Doubs combined for just 8.5 pts (all which which were scored by Lazard) in GB's embarrassing loss in Washington. Good games from RBs Chubb and Mostert just weren't enough this week.

Oh yeah. Kyle Pitts still sucks

Bye Week vs Ballderberg

Bye week no more! 2 wins in a row means you are legally required to change your name to something less self deprecating. This was a fairly odd winning lineup with 0 players breaking the 20 point threshold. He can thank Mike Williams for catching a TD and Gano for kicking several long FGs to secure the win.

Ballderberg had rough injury luck this week. Even though Breece hit another long TD before going down, he's out for the year. Meanwhile, ARSB looks to be fine, but was held out due to new concussion protocols. Good for the person but not fun to look at in the fantasy lineup.

Roswell LAMARtians vs Ancient Allens

Sometimes the easiest way to grab a win is to luck into playing someone with a lot of players on bye. That's not to say LAMARtians didn't deserve a win with the 4th highest score of the week, but not having to face Josh Allen makes missing your projections quite a bit easier.

LAMARtians made a great call in playing Tyler Boyd again, and is now 2/2 in catching his "boom" weeks. And while Lamar continues to struggle, Ekeler continues to absolutely dominate the RB position. He's the RB1 on the year currently and the overall #6 scoring player.

Ancient Allens got solid games from most of their team but was let down by their 3rd year WRs. Metcalf scored just a point before leaving with an injury and Lamb only brought in half of his projection in what should have been a great matchup against Detroit.

Hazers vs Oh Godwin he can See

Hey look, it's the closest matchup of the week!

Godwin got a big lead on Thursday night with a surprisingly good game from Eno Benjamin but ultimately they had disappointing performances from WR superstars Deebo Samuel and Chris Godwin.(Hmm, I wonder if there was another WR on the bench who could have changed the outcome?)

Hazers also had awful WR play but was saved by Tennessee scoring their highest total of the season thanks to a fumble recovered for a TD. For the first time I can remember Hazers had 0 total bench points due to 4 players on bye and 2 more injuries, so they have to be feeling great about pulling out a win.

Momo vs KY

What a disgusting game. Momo has his first really bad game of the season and gets totally bailed out by playing against the worst performance of the season so far from KY.

1 catch from Drake London. 0 touches for James Robinson. 4 turnovers from Goff. That's how you end up with a sub 50 score.

The highlight of this matchup was a kicker. Never a good sign.

Pickup of the Week

Gus Edwards, Bye Week. Austin responded to Dobbins' trip to the IR by grabbing Edwards just as he returned from his own injury. Should be a great play for a month or more as Dobbins attempts to get healthy.

Shameful Benching of the Week

DJ Moore, Oh Godwin he can See. How could you bench DJ? Just because he hadn't broken 10 points since week 2? Because he's playing with the team's QB3? Because they also traded away their best player?

And you thought somehow the offense wouldn't explode and destroy the Bucs? Shameful.

2024 Week 3: Bad Luck or Just Suck

There was this site Greg shared a long time ago called Bad Luck or Just Suck (https://badluckorjustsuck.herokuapp.com). We all know intuitively whether we belong where we are or not, but now that we've had 3 full weeks, I'll include some extra validation I'm sure a few of you will appreciate. Ja'Marr SteepleChase: SteepleChase has been pretty mediocre to start the season, not yet cracking 120 points. A couple of close wins against two sub 100 point weeks makes for the third least challenging schedule so far. Like the other two teams with even easier schedules, SteepleChase has relied heavily on luck so far. Expected Wins: 1.56 Expected Rank: 6 Percent Chance of Ranking: 5% Verdict: Dumb Luck Lamarathon Runners: Has anybody checked in recently on Greg's firstborn child? After three years of championship dominance, this team seems well on its way to lucking into a fourth. Sitting just outside of first place by less than 1 point, Lamrathon managed to beat out probably ...
