Week 6 : Where are all the Touchdowns?

The NFL is having a down year for scoring. Real life teams are scoring less than most years , but that difference isn't too shocking. An average of 21.6 points/game vs last year's 23.

Fantasy points scored, on the other hand, are down 22% vs last season!

So um, how do NFL teams keep scoring points without fantasy players reaping the rewards? Field Goals instead of touchdowns, defensive scores, etc.

Which leads us to ask: where are the touchdowns? Seriously what happened to them? All I know is that we're facing another week where the majority of our teams failed to reach their projections.

Matchups

The Loch Ness Burrow vs Oh Godwin He Can See
Man, talk about trades paying off quickly! Burrow traded for Ja'maar Chase late last week and he combined with the real Burrow to score 66 points in their win over New Orleans. This team was also wise to start Ken Walker III this week as he continues his breakout campaign.

Godwin had a fairly solid week with the exception of the Bengals defense and back-to-back MVP Aaron Rodgers. I've spent a lot of time trashing Russel Wilson in these posts, but maybe I should be picking on Rodgers more! He's somehow only the QB20 in our scoring system and would absolutely be on waivers with those stats if he was anyone else. I guess losing Adams was a pretty big deal after all.

Bye Week vs Jets Fuel Can't Melt Steel Beams

Bye Week needs a new name as they've finally notched their first win of the season! This matchup was largely decided by the Patriots/Browns game.

The Browns continue to disappoint on the season dropping 38-15 to possible new starting QB Bailey Zappe. This crushed the value of Jets Fuel's Nick Chubb play and also resulted in 16 points to Bye Week's team from the Patriots DST.

Justin Herbert completely fell apart on Monday night football, in his first ever(?) game without a touchdown to seal this one.

KY vs Roswell LAMARtians

Last week we said he couldn't keep getting away with it right? Well he finally didn't. Lamar Jackson continues to underwhelm without any real WR options and Kareem Hunt was pitiful in the aforementioned Browns game. Oh yeah, and basically 1/3 of this team was on bye as well. One of the rare sub 10 point losses where there were no substitutions that would have changed anything in retrospect.

KY got 0 points from his defense but managed to win anyway thanks to the continued dominance of Tyreek Hill, who is now on pace for over 2000 yards this season. CMC continues to be a solid player despite the lack of burst games in an awful Carolina offense. It really feels like he's due for an explosive multi TD game, hopefully not against your squad <insert reader here>!

Hazers vs Ballderberg

In by far the closest game of the week, Hazers takes the 1 point victory on the backs of current WR1 Stefon Diggs, and breakout RB superstar Ramondre Stevenson. If this team could simply replace Russell Wilson for someone capable of throwing the football they would be a real force to be reckoned with in the league.

Ballderberg somehow loses despite all 3 of their starting RBs scoring 14-20 points thanks to the absolutely abysmal WR performances from Gage and MVS. 3 points. combined. Like, the two of them together. only scored 3 points.

Ancient Allens vs Chipped by Billy G

Taysom Hill returned to earth, DK Metcalf was awful this week and Ancient Allens underperforms only to win rather comfortably.

This can be laid at the feet of the Green Bay defense who surrendered 27 points to the Jets (who might actually be a good offense?) and Tom Brady's continued struggle to get the Bucs offense working this season. Maybe he should have stayed retired?

Oh yeah, Josh Allen is still amazing. I can get a head start on next week's commentary by copy/pasting this sentence there as well.

Kelsey Lohan's Ghost vs Momo

And lets finish up with our lowest scoring matchup of the week, the only one in which neither team reached the 100 point threshold. The defenses selected by these two geniuses combined for 4 points on the week, and each had just one player score 20 points.

For Momo this is a 2nd straight loss after starting the first 4 weeks undefeated, and disappointing RB performances are largely to blame. Chase Edmunds has fallen off a cliff from his pre-season projections, and Jeff Wilson after 5 solid weeks turned in just 25 yards with a fumble in SF's shocking blowout loss to Atlanta.

Kelsey can feel good about Pitts finally putting up a decent week as long as he doesn't dig into the stats. 9 points from a TD and 3 catches for 19 yards doesn't scream sustainable to me. After holding Hopkins all season at least there's hope he can be the answer at WR/Flex.

Pickup of the Week

If you read last week's post you should be able to predict this one pretty easily..

Ken "Kenneth" Walker the Third (III) , picked up for a whopping $92 by The Lock Ness Burrow.

KW3 followed up his strong breakout performance last week with 97 yard and a TD this week.

Shameful Benching of the Week

The first one of these that's actually Shameful. Ballderberg ultimately loses by a single point for benching a questionable Tee Higgins for 0 points from MVS. Oof.

2024 Week 3: Bad Luck or Just Suck

There was this site Greg shared a long time ago called Bad Luck or Just Suck (https://badluckorjustsuck.herokuapp.com). We all know intuitively whether we belong where we are or not, but now that we've had 3 full weeks, I'll include some extra validation I'm sure a few of you will appreciate. Ja'Marr SteepleChase: SteepleChase has been pretty mediocre to start the season, not yet cracking 120 points. A couple of close wins against two sub 100 point weeks makes for the third least challenging schedule so far. Like the other two teams with even easier schedules, SteepleChase has relied heavily on luck so far. Expected Wins: 1.56 Expected Rank: 6 Percent Chance of Ranking: 5% Verdict: Dumb Luck Lamarathon Runners: Has anybody checked in recently on Greg's firstborn child? After three years of championship dominance, this team seems well on its way to lucking into a fourth. Sitting just outside of first place by less than 1 point, Lamrathon managed to beat out probably ...
